Houston, TX (PRWEB) April 21, 2015

The 45th anniversary of Earth Day is fast approaching. Earth Day occurs each April 22nd, and was first celebrated in 1970. The international holiday serves as an important rallying point for environmental causes and for increasing environmental awareness. This years Earth Day theme Its our turn to lead serves as a good representation of the approach under which R.A.K.I. Computers operates. As an environmentally-conscious certified e-waste recycler, R.A.K.I. Computers strives to uphold the environmental values of Earth Day. R.A.K.I. will make a renewed effort during the following year to show that dedication as the company works to renew its R2:2013 Certification, a show of the company’s commitment to responsible electronics recycling. The company will continue to improve business processes, exceed state and federal requirements, and treat each new day as an opportunity to protect our planets environment.

Earth Day originated at a time that many consider to be the birth of the modern environmental movement. In a piece on the history of the holiday, The Earth Day Network explores the atmosphere of the time. The holiday was first proposed by then U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson. Senator Nelson saw the opportunity to take advantage of the emerging public consciousness about pollution, the energy of the student protest movement, and use the momentum to put protecting the environment on the national agenda. The first Earth Day saw a turnout of 20 million Americans. Earth Day is now celebrated by more than 1 billion people in 192 countries. It is the largest civic observance in the world.

As a private sector electronic waste recycler, primarily serving corporate clients, R.A.K.I. Computers has taken steps to go above and beyond federal and state requirements for environmental compliance. The company holds the R2:2013 Responsible Electronic Recycler certification. R2 was created in 2008 as the highest award achieved in the e-recycling industry; its integrity being found in its third-party audit system. Facilities certified in the R2 Standard adhere to best practices in recycling and refurbishment, chain-of-custody documentation, and worker health and safety procedures. The reuse and re-purposing of electronic waste, responsible disposal, and a commitment to finding stateside solutions for materials shows R.A.K.I. Computers to be a leader in addressing the growing e-waste problem.

As a recycling company, protecting the Earth and conserving resources is R.A.K.I.s business. Electronic waste was not one of the big environmental issues when Senator Nelson first began his work to organize Earth Day. Today it is one of the many growing problems that our planet faces. R.A.K.I. Computers will continue to take every opportunity to protect our planet, address the growing electronic waste problem, and serve as leaders in being good protectors of the Earth.
